1 samuel 17:25-31 NIV
Now the Israelites had been saying, "Do you see how this man keeps coming out? He comes out to defy Israel. The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him. He will also give him his daughter in marriage and will exempt his family from taxes in Israel."
David asked the men standing near him, "What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?"
They repeated to him what they had been saying and told him, "This is what will be done for the man who kills him."
When Eliab, David's oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, "Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle."
“Now what have I done?” said David. “Can’t I even speak?” He then turned away to someone else and brought up the same matter, and the men answered him as before. What David said was overheard and reported to Saul, and Saul sent for him.
Now you must be wondering why Eliab was frustrated at a young boy asking about Goliath. David's boldness spoke to Eliab's weakness. How many a time do we meet people senior to us who try to project their weaknesses on us by trying to bring out our own. In essence Eliab was saying you have no business here. He was trying to reduce David to his background, which spoke to what he was (a shepherd boy) and what he was not (a warrior)
How many times have we shared our dreams with people only yo have them trampled upon, looked down upon, frowned upon till we thought indeed I must have been dreaming to think my dream will come to pass.
Well lesson from David, (a King in the making) David turned another way, asked the same question. Keep knocking those doors. Keep talking to some other people and sooner rather than later, your matter will be brought before those that matter. In David's case his words were brought to King Saul himself. Eventually the boy was brought before the King and he pitched his business idea. He pitched his proposal, his solution to the national crisis. What is your dream? Never let go of it on account of people's opinions. That seed God has planted in your heart, He alone knew you were the right candidate to nurture that dream to full growth. Don't let anyone talk you out of it. You are a champion!
